It’s hard to find a better rivalry in hockey — nay, sports — than the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. It’s impossible to find a better montage maker than the CBC and Tim Thompson.
Normally we’re used to marvelling at the montages in the postseason and particularly when the Stanley Cup Final is finished but sometimes they can achieve near perfection in the regular season too as Thompson’s latest did on Saturday night.
Even if you aren’t a fan of either of the Original Six Canadian squads good luck not getting goose bumps listening to Luciano Pavarotti provide the perfect tone for an epic collection of rivalry highlights.
There was some additional focus on the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast given it was the first broadcast since the mega TV deal was announced earlier this week in Canada and the CBC gave a great reminder as to why it would be a shame to ever see the CBC’s role in the NHL diminished.
